Brain Tumors: “Da Santo a Santo” is Back, the Charity Marathon for Research

About 1200 kilometers, to be covered in six stages, starting from Sanremo on June 2, to arrive in Padua on the 7th . One goal: to raise funds for brain tumor research . Da Santo a Santo is a catalytic initiative, organized by the Giovanni Celeghin Foundation , named after the Venetian entrepreneur who died in 2011 due to glioblastoma multiforme, the most aggressive brain tumor, still today without hope of recovery. Now in its twelfth edition, the event will once again see Fabio Celeghin as the protagonist along the roads of Italy, who will not go up the peninsula like last year, but will cut across it from west to east. Always on his two wheels. “It really is a big commitment, I don't deny it. Cycling requires effort, but it is an effort that I choose, every time. – he says – Because through it I pay homage to the memory of my father, who passed on this passion to me. But also because Italy is wonderful, and pedaling along its roads, from north to south, makes me feel part of something bigger. Above all, effort has an immense power: it transforms the individual gesture into a collective message. Every pedal stroke becomes a concrete act to support a just cause, which deserves all my commitment”.
In the past eleven editions , Fabio has cycled over 10,200 kilometres and directly and indirectly raised around 1,750,000 euros , which were then allocated through specific calls to finance the most important research projects on this incurable disease. The goal now is to “break through” the 2 million barrier. And the appeal to everyone is therefore to follow Fabio Celeghin on his journey, from Sanremo to Asti and then Brescia, Asiago, Trieste, Treviso, up to the grand finale in Padua . And above all to donate, to make a contribution. How will this money be used? Those of the Foundation assign funds - following a regular call validated by a scientific committee chaired by the famous oncologist Giorgio Palù - to the most promising projects against this terrible disease. “In these decades we have financed scientific institutions in Milan, Rome, Naples, Genoa, Pisa, Padua and Oxford”, explains Annalisa Celeghin , Fabio's sister. Previously, scholarships, psychological support initiatives for patients and their caregivers and the purchase of furnishings for treatment rooms were also financed, for a value of approximately 3.5 million euros.
In the final stage of this twelfth edition, the Treviso-Padova on June 7, and in particular for the last twenty kilometers, everyone will be able to join Fabio by accompanying him on his bike for the rides before the finish line. Even if he will never be alone, thanks to the support of partners mobilized for the same goal, companies "that have the well-being of others at heart and that want to fight this terrible disease" and that have therefore decided to support the event. Among the main ones are Pinarello, ProAction, Rudy Project, Relizont, Hadmin, Evologi and Inovys Logistic .
